Each one also features a fun Halloween or reading-themed saying. Free Printable Halloween Bookmarks to Color

There are 16 different designs to choose from, so kids can pick their favorite or color the entire collection. The bookmarks are divided among four printable pages, with four designs on each page.

The first set is packed with classic Halloween characters and lots of reading puns. A vampire reads a book with the phrase “Have a Fang-tastic Read!”, while cute bats accompany “Batty About Books.”

There is also a scarecrow holding a book for “Scare Up a Good Book” and a little witch with her broom for “Witch Way to the Books?” The leaves, stars, clouds, moon, and other small details give kids extra areas to color without making the designs overly complicated.

This second page combines Halloween treats with plenty of bookish fun. “Reading Is a Treat” features a large stack of books surrounded by candy corn, while “Books Are Boo-tiful” features an adorable girl ghost floating above another stack of books.

Kids can also color a jack-o’-lantern filled with books on the “Trick or Read” bookmark. The final design says “Reading Is Magical” and features a witch hat, magic wand, books, and plenty of stars and magical sparkles.

The third collection has some of my favorite spooky reading sayings. “Hocus Pocus, Time to Focus” features a bubbling cauldron surrounded by magical sparkles, making it a fun choice for assigned reading or homework time.

The last set includes even more classic Halloween fun. The “Stay Spooky” design features a jack-o’-lantern sitting on a stack of books with little bats flying overhead.

For older kids who like something a little spookier, “Read If You Dare” has an old wooden sign hanging above a graveyard. There is also a cute cat sitting on a jack-o’-lantern with “Happy Halloween” above it.

Supplies Needed

You only need a few basic supplies for this activity: a printer, white printer paper or cardstock, crayons, colored pencils or markers, and scissors or a paper cutter.

I recommend using white cardstock if you have it because it makes the finished bookmarks a little sturdier. For bookmarks that will get lots of use, you can also laminate them after coloring. A hole punch and a little ribbon or yarn can be added at the top for an extra decorative touch, but that’s completely optional.

How to Print and Make Your Halloween Bookmarks

1. Download the printable. Click the download button above and save the PDF to your computer or device.
2. Print the bookmarks. Print the pages you want on white printer paper or cardstock. For the best results, use your printer’s high-quality setting.
3. Color the designs. Let the kids decorate their bookmarks with crayons, markers, or colored pencils. I recommend coloring them while they’re still on the full sheet because it’s much easier that way.
4. Cut out each bookmark. Use scissors to carefully cut around the outside edges. Adults can use a paper cutter for quick, straight edges when preparing a larger batch for a classroom or party.
5. Add the finishing touches. The bookmarks can be used right away, or you can laminate them for extra durability. You can also punch a hole near the top and add a small ribbon or piece of yarn.
