16 Free Printable Halloween Bookmarks to Color for Kids

Make reading time a little more spooktacular this spooky season with these free printable Halloween bookmarks to color!

A collage of 16 free printable Halloween bookmarks to color for kids featuring ghosts, witches, pumpkins, bats, books, and spooky reading sayings.

This set includes 16 free printable bookmarks filled with cute ghosts, witches, pumpkins, bats, candy corn, and other spooky characters. Each one also features a fun Halloween or reading-themed saying. Kids can color their favorite design, cut it out, and use it to save their spot in a favorite Halloween story or any book they are reading this October.

These Halloween coloring bookmarks make for a fun activity at home, in classrooms, in libraries, and at Halloween parties. They can also double as reading rewards, party favors, or a simple candy-free Halloween treat. Just print, color, cut, and start reading!

Pair them with these Halloween coloring pages for an easy October activity at home or in the classroom.

Free Printable Halloween Bookmarks to Color

There are 16 different designs to choose from, so kids can pick their favorite or color the entire collection. The bookmarks are divided among four printable pages, with four designs on each page.

Halloween bookmarks to color featuring a vampire, bats, a scarecrow, and a witch with reading-themed sayings.

The first set is packed with classic Halloween characters and lots of reading puns. A vampire reads a book with the phrase “Have a Fang-tastic Read!”, while cute bats accompany “Batty About Books.”

There is also a scarecrow holding a book for “Scare Up a Good Book” and a little witch with her broom for “Witch Way to the Books?” The leaves, stars, clouds, moon, and other small details give kids extra areas to color without making the designs overly complicated.

bookmarks featuring candy corn, a cute ghost, a jack-o'-lantern filled with books, and a witch hat

This second page combines Halloween treats with plenty of bookish fun. “Reading Is a Treat” features a large stack of books surrounded by candy corn, while “Books Are Boo-tiful” features an adorable girl ghost floating above another stack of books.

Kids can also color a jack-o’-lantern filled with books on the “Trick or Read” bookmark. The final design says “Reading Is Magical” and features a witch hat, magic wand, books, and plenty of stars and magical sparkles.

bookmarks to color featuring a bubbling cauldron, mummy reading a book, witch with a wand, and cute reading ghost.

The third collection has some of my favorite spooky reading sayings. “Hocus Pocus, Time to Focus” features a bubbling cauldron surrounded by magical sparkles, making it a fun choice for assigned reading or homework time.

A cute mummy reading goes with “Wrapped Up in a Good Book.” There is also a little witch holding her magic wand for “Witching You Happy Reading” and an adorable book-loving ghost for “Frightfully Good Reads.”

The last set includes even more classic Halloween fun. The “Stay Spooky” design features a jack-o’-lantern sitting on a stack of books with little bats flying overhead.

For older kids who like something a little spookier, “Read If You Dare” has an old wooden sign hanging above a graveyard. There is also a cute cat sitting on a jack-o’-lantern with “Happy Halloween” above it.

The final “Spooky Sweet Read” bookmark features an adorable ghost topper cupcake with sprinkles.

What’s Included

The printable PDF includes all four pages with 16 different black-and-white bookmarks for kids to color. Each page features four designs that mix Halloween characters, spooky sayings, and simple background details.

Because the bookmarks are left uncolored, kids can make each one their own. They can use traditional Halloween colors like orange, purple, green, and black or get creative and choose completely different color combinations.

Supplies Needed

You only need a few basic supplies for this activity: a printer, white printer paper or cardstock, crayons, colored pencils or markers, and scissors or a paper cutter.

I recommend using white cardstock if you have it because it makes the finished bookmarks a little sturdier. For bookmarks that will get lots of use, you can also laminate them after coloring. A hole punch and a little ribbon or yarn can be added at the top for an extra decorative touch, but that’s completely optional.

How to Print and Make Your Halloween Bookmarks

  1. Download the printable. Click the download button above and save the PDF to your computer or device.
  2. Print the bookmarks. Print the pages you want on white printer paper or cardstock. For the best results, use your printer’s high-quality setting.
  3. Color the designs. Let the kids decorate their bookmarks with crayons, markers, or colored pencils. I recommend coloring them while they’re still on the full sheet because it’s much easier that way.
  4. Cut out each bookmark. Use scissors to carefully cut around the outside edges. Adults can use a paper cutter for quick, straight edges when preparing a larger batch for a classroom or party.
  5. Add the finishing touches. The bookmarks can be used right away, or you can laminate them for extra durability. You can also punch a hole near the top and add a small ribbon or piece of yarn.

Fun Ways to Use These Bookmarks for Kids

  • Make them a classroom activity. Set out the printable bookmarks with crayons or colored pencils for an easy October coloring activity.
  • Use them as reading rewards. Let kids choose a new bookmark after finishing a book, meeting a reading goal, or completing a reading challenge.
  • Add them to party favors. Color-your-own bookmarks are an inexpensive addition to treat bags and party goodie bags.
  • Give them as a candy-free Halloween treat. Pair a bookmark with a fun pencil, mini pack of crayons, or book as an alternative to candy.
  • Add one to a Boo Basket. Slip a few printable bookmarks into a Boo basket along with books, activities, and other little surprises.
  • Use them for story time. Kids can color a bookmark before or after reading a spooky story and then use it to mark their place in their next book.
