Looking for a simple way to add a little autumn fun to your day? This free printable fall scavenger hunt is an easy activity that gets kids moving, searching, and excited about the cozy season.

Whether you are planning a fall classroom activity, a Thanksgiving party game, a homeschool lesson, or a screen-free afternoon at home, this printable makes it easy to bring a little seasonal excitement indoors. Kids will search for cute fall picture cards, mark each item on their checklist, and have fun spotting pumpkins, apples, leaves, pie, acorns, and other autumn favorites.

This fall printable is especially great for preschool, kindergarten, and early elementary ages because it uses pictures instead of written clues. Younger children can match the images as they go, while older kids can turn it into a competitive timed challenge.

What’s Included in the Printable

This free printable comes as a 4-page PDF file and includes:

  • One scavenger hunt checklist page
  • Checkboxes for marking each item as it is found
  • 12 fall picture cards to cut out and hide
  • Colorful autumn leaves and seasonal designs
  • Easy picture matching for young kids

Get the PDF at the bottom of the post by clicking on the button.

The scavenger hunt items include:

  • Apple
  • Pumpkin
  • Corn
  • Pumpkin pie slice
  • Pie
  • Turkey
  • Acorn
  • Berries
  • Pilgrim hat
  • Sunflower
  • Fall leaf
  • Gourd

Because the activity is picture-based, kids do not need to be strong readers to join in. It is a great choice for toddlers with help, preschoolers, kindergarten students, and younger elementary-aged children.

Supplies Needed

  • PDF file of scavenger hunt pages with fall picture cards (Get it at the bottom of the post)
  • Scissors
  • Pencil, crayon, marker, or bingo dauber
  • Optional clipboard
  • Optional laminator

Regular printer paper works well if you are using the activity one time. If you want the cards to hold up better, print them on cardstock. For classroom use or yearly fall activities, laminate the checklist and cards so kids can use dry-erase markers.

How to Use it

  1. Print the activity pages.
Print one checklist page for each child. Then print the fall picture cards and cut them apart along the dotted lines.
  2. Hide the cards.
Place the cards around the room, classroom, playroom, or party area. Keep them easy to spot for younger kids, or make them a little harder to find for older children.
  3. Pass out the checklist.
Give each child a scavenger hunt page and something to write with. Explain that they will look for the hidden fall cards and check off each matching picture as they find it.
  4. Start searching.
Kids can hunt on their own, work with a partner, or search together as a group. For a classroom or party, you can also set a timer to make it feel more like a fun fall challenge.
  5. Review the items together.
After everyone finishes, gather the kids and talk about the fall objects they found. This is a great opportunity to discuss autumn vocabulary, seasonal foods, Thanksgiving, harvest themes, and nature.

When to Use This Fall Scavenger Hunt

  • Fall Classroom Activity – This printable makes a fun fall activity for school, early finishers, or a seasonal classroom party. Since it is quick to set up, it is perfect when you need something festive without a lot of prep.
  • Thanksgiving Party Game – Use this as an easy Thanksgiving scavenger hunt for kids before dinner or at a family gathering. It gives kids something active to do while adults are cooking, setting the table, or chatting.
  • Homeschool Fall Lesson -Add this activity to a fall, harvest, or Thanksgiving unit.
  • Preschool or Daycare – For younger children, use the cards as a group activity rather than hiding them around the room. Hold up each card, name the item, and let kids find the matching picture on their checklist. This is a simple way to practice vocabulary, visual matching, and listening skills.
  • At-Home Autumn Fun – This is a cute activity for cozy days indoors. Hide the cards around the living room, kitchen, or playroom and let kids search for all the festive fall pictures.

Easy Ways to Adapt the Activity by Age

For younger kids, keep the hunt simple and relaxed. Hide the cards in plain sight, search together as a group, and limit the activity to one small area. You can also call out clues like “Look near something soft” or “Check by the window” to help them along.

For older kids, turn it into a more challenging activity. Set a timer and/or hide the cards in trickier spots. You can also split the kids into teams and see who completes their checklist first.
