I love overnight oats because they are affordable, healthy and easy to make. All you have to do is mix the ingredients together and refrigerate overnight!  There is an endless combination of ingredients to mix in so you won’t get bored with the same thing every morning.

    Here is the base recipe:

    • Use a one-to-one ratio of oats and milk, yogurt, or any other dairy substitutes. Example: ½ cup of rolled oats, ½ cup of yogurt, ½ cup of milk. Adding chia seeds will thicken the mixture so adjust accordingly.
    • Mix ingredients and toppings together and refrigerate overnight (at least 4 hours) and enjoy the next morning!
    • Tip: Some toppings can be added in the morning to add a crunch (e.g. nuts or granola)

Here are some mix and match ideas so you can create your own overnight oatmeal:

Do you use instant oats or uncooked oats?

You can use which ever you prefer! The instant oats will have a softer and creamier texture than the regular oats while regular oats will have a bit more of a chewy consistency.

Can I use steel-cut oats instead of rolled oats? Would the ratio of oats to liquid be different?

        Hi Dana,
Yes, you absolutely can! Here is a good ratio for steel cut oats: https://www.wellplated.com/overnight-steel-cut-oats-recipe/

        Hope that helps,

I’m trying to be more eco friendly and oat milk is supposed to be great for the environment. So is oat milk oaky to use?

My husband probably won’t eat cold oats. Can you heat the up?
Also could you make a printable chart?
      Thank you.

I heat mine, 30 second at a time in the microwave until I reach the consistency I like. Less than 2 minutes usually.

As far as health benefits, they are pretty much the same, but overnight oats are certainly easier to make ahead for an on-the-go breakfast in the morning and are very customizable.
